The title of this piece is While the iron, while the fish
While the iron, while the fish is my take on an illustration from a medieval manuscript. It is a monk who drinks wine from the barrel. However, my monk is driven by crazy lust, secrecy and drunken hallucinations. He is more clown than monk, inhabiting an imaginary space where a fish pours wine like a waterfall from its mouth. The image captures the moment of temporary insanity that can arise when one finds oneself at the right place, at the right time.
I think I tend to like monks (see also Brick Moon). And clowns. especially sad ones.
This fella features in my graphic novel Shadow Costume.
